After Shrove Monday procession in Fulda: Four seriously injured in knife attacks

The Shrove Monday procession in Fulda attracts more onlookers than ever before. But in the evening the mood changes in some places: in the city center there are two knife attacks, four people are seriously injured. Police arrested two suspects.

Four people were injured in two knife attacks after the Rose Monday parade in Fulda. The crimes happened independently of each other, said a police spokeswoman on Tuesday night. Both acts were committed in downtown Fulda. Two alleged perpetrators have already been arrested. A spokesman said it was unclear how many perpetrators there were in total.

One of the crimes happened in a bar district, reported the "Hessenschau", citing police information. Two of the three parties involved were seriously injured in an altercation on the street. Two other people are said to have seriously injured each other in a nearby supermarket parking lot. The investigations and witness interviews are still ongoing, and the public prosecutor wants to comment on the attacks later today.

According to the police, around 85,000 visitors took part in the traditional Rose Monday procession in Fulda. In addition, about 4000 parade participants moved through the city center. So this year there were more onlookers than ever before, said train coordinator Hans-Jürgen Dröge.

During celebrations after the move, there were already minor clashes in the inner city area, and the police issued several evictions. In addition to the knife attacks, the "Osthessen News" portal also reports on several fights. In addition, however, "no other significant incidents were recorded at the events in the entire Fulda district," according to a police press release.
