Federal police officer shoots: Shoplifter threatens with a knife at Berlin Central Station

Fire brigade and police arrive with almost 50 men: Before that, a federal police officer fires his gun when arresting a suspected shoplifter. The teenager is said to have threatened officials in a Rossmann branch with a knife.

The federal police arrested a suspected shoplifter at Berlin Central Station in the afternoon. One of the officers used his firearm, a spokesman for the federal police said. A spokesman for the Berlin fire brigade said several injured people had been taken to nearby hospitals. The "Welt" reported that the injuries were minor. It was initially unclear how this had happened. According to "BZ", the incident occurred in the Rossmann branch.

The "Tagesspiegel" reported in the evening with reference to the federal police that a shop detective had arrested a suspected thief and called the federal police. The young people were housed in a separate room. The federal police officers who arrived found that the suspect was carrying a knife. "The officers asked her to put the knife away and threatened coercion," the spokesman told the newspaper. The teenager then attacked the police officers with a knife, after which the officers first used pepper spray, and a police officer then shot the service pistol and hit the teenager on the arm. "The attack could be interrupted," the spokesman said.

The fire brigade, who had been alerted because of a so-called dangerous situation, spoke of several slightly injured people who had to be treated and taken to nearby hospitals. She was deployed with almost 50 officers. According to the federal police, only the teenager was physically injured. For the others - the store employee and the officials - only possible irritation from the pepper spray and blast trauma were clarified, the report said. The Berlin State Criminal Police Office (LKA) has taken over the investigation into the use of the federal police officer's service weapon.
