Series of fires continues: oil refinery in eastern Siberia bursts into flames

Fires have repeatedly broken out in Russia in recent months, damaging shopping malls, factories and other facilities. Is that pure coincidence? Now there is also a major fire in a refinery in Angarsk.

Two people died in a major fire at an oil refinery in Russia. Five other people were injured in the accident in eastern Siberia, according to the governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobsev.

According to the authorities, the refinery in the city of Angarsk caught fire in the morning. Referring to the emergency services, Kobsev told Telegram that the fire was probably caused by a gas leak. An investigation has been launched to see if there has been a breach of safety standards.

Fires have broken out in Russia in recent months, damaging shopping malls, factories and other facilities. Often the fires are caused by outdated equipment or non-compliance with regulations.

At the same time, fears of attacks from Ukraine are growing after several drones apparently reached military airports inland. Even on state television, which at the beginning of the war still expected Kiev to be taken quickly, there is now a discussion as to whether Ukraine can also reach Siberia with rockets.
