"Bares for Rares": From grandpa's living room: heirloom turns out to be a masterpiece

For years it hung in grandpa's living room: Victoria and Thomas Primavesi, daughter and father from Hamburg and Olpe, come with an heirloom to "Bares for Rares" - a painting. "It was always passed on in our family," explains the daughter in Horst Lichter's ZDF junk show. Unfortunately, the color no longer fits into her apartment. "It's a bit of a shame, but we hope that it will end up in good hands." What neither of them suspect: a small masterpiece hung in Grandpa's living room.

"The painter was Patrick von Kalckreuth," explains "Bares for Rares" expert Bianca Berding. The artist, born in Kiel in 1898, has specialized in the theme of surf and sea. The painting of the Primavesis also shows a sea scene - the surging North Sea. "Kalckreuth made a few trips, but the North Sea fascinated him," says Berding. Above all, his depiction of spray, water and light is technically virtuosic. “His horizon line is very high. The sea fills almost the entire picture.” That is the magic of his pictures, enthuses the expert.

The Primavesis would like 1000 euros for Grandpa's painting. "But we'll let ourselves be surprised," says the daughter. Bianca Berding agrees with this idea. Since the oil painting is in excellent condition and the frame also fits, its estimated price is between 800 and 1000 euros. But in the dealer room there is a surprise.

"Kalckreuth is the wave painter," knows Fabian Kahl immediately. Wolfgang Pauritsch also likes the painting. "We're excited," he says. Kahl starts with a bid of 400 euros. But Elke Velten-Tönnies and Jan Cizek are also bidding. 500 euros, 600 euros, 1000 euros – the bids skyrocket. Cizek wants the picture and outbids everyone else by 50 euros each. Velten-Tönnies gets out at 1550 euros. “Are we going to do that?” asks Cizek. “1,600 euros would be even nicer,” Primavesi gambles. "I do it with pleasure."

The Primavesis got 600 euros more than the expert estimated. A complete success. Father and daughter want to invest the money in a trip.
