Lawyer achieves success: Britney Spears does not have to testify in court – why the dispute is far from over

Anyone who thinks that Britney Spears' arguments with lawyers and the court have come to an end is wrong. In September, her father, Jamie Spears, was removed as her guardian after the singer herself testified in court over the phone and made serious allegations. Jamie Spears has been fighting back ever since.

Matthew Rosengart, the musician's lawyer, achieved a partial success on Wednesday. The judge in charge ruled that Britney did not have to appear in court to give sworn testimony. Rosengart argues that his client "feels traumatized by what she went through" and questioning her father's attorney would "retraumatize" her.

In turn, he said Jamie Spears wanted to appeal. Even today he is still proud of what he did for his daughter. "She wants to get on with her life, but this man, her father, her flesh and blood, doesn't want that," Britney's attorney told reporters waiting in court on Wednesday. "The thought of her father - or any father - wanting a vexatious questioning of his daughter is morally abhorrent," he said firmly.

Earlier this year, Rosengart managed another success for Britney Spears. Jamie Spears was ordered by the judge to turn over all important paperwork in his possession. The deadline was mid-August.

For 13 years, Spears was barely allowed to make a decision himself. She had to perform even when she was ill. She was not allowed to dispose of her money herself. The singer didn't even have power over her own body. So she said in June last year that she wanted another child, but that she was not allowed to become pregnant. You are not allowed to drive or get married. Her family belong behind bars, she let the court know. According to New York Times revelations, Spears was even under surveillance in her bedroom. However, their guardians denied the accusation that they had housed bugs.
