The principal of the Maurice-Ravel school campus in Paris (20th arrondissement), threatened with death on the Internet after an altercation with a student to get her to remove her veil, has left his position, the Paris rectorate declared on Tuesday March 26 Agence France-Presse.
According to a message sent Tuesday to parents, students, teachers and members of the board of directors, the principal "left his duties for security reasons", which, however, did not confirm the rectorate, which cites reasons “personal convenience.”
On February 28, the principal of the Maurice-Ravel high school asked three students to remove their veils on the high school grounds. One of them, an adult and studying in BTS, had ignored the principal, which caused an altercation. Death threats against the principal were then made online. The investigation by the national center for the fight against online hatred, a specialized division of the Paris prosecutor's office, led to the arrest of a suspect in mid-March. This 26-year-old young man was placed under judicial supervision until his trial, scheduled for April 23.
This affair had a strong echo in the educational community: around a hundred school heads gathered on March 4, in front of the Sorbonne in Paris, to show their support for their colleague.
