Queen Elizabeth II (96) will not attend the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next week. Once again, Prince Charles (73) and Duchess Camilla (75) will represent the monarch, who is patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). The post also states that in addition to Charles and Camilla, other members of the British royal family will be present at the spectacle. The Commonwealth Games take place every four years and bring together 4,600 athletes from a total of 72 nations and countries. The event begins on July 27th and ends on August 8th. According to the Daily Mail, Prince Edward (58) will give the speech at the closing ceremony.
In addition, according to another report, Prince William (40) and his wife Duchess Kate (40) will attend the event, possibly with their children Prince George (9), Princess Charlotte (7) and Prince Louis (4). The Queen is expected to remain at her home in Balmoral, Scotland, where she traditionally spends her summer holidays, during the games. The 96-year-old is said to have arrived there on Thursday (July 21).
