The 2023 Telethon raised nearly 93 million euros for research into rare genetic diseases, its best result since 2016, the organizers of this charity marathon welcomed on Thursday. At the end of the operation, sponsored by singer Vianney on December 8 and 9, the counter was stopped when it showed more than 80 million euros in pledges.

But the public still had the possibility of donating later, which made it possible to arrive at the final sum of 92,905,533 euros, compared to 90.8 million euros in 2023, said the AFM-Téléthon.

“Each Telethon is a unique and powerful moment because it is the driving force behind a search for excellence driven by patients and parents of patients, and which today saves lives”, underlined Laurence Tiennot-Herment, president of the AFM-Téléthon association, in a press release.

Telethon funds particularly target rare diseases, 95% of which remain untreated or even undiagnosed. Beyond the research issues, the Telethon remains a unique event: during its last edition, it mobilized more than 200,000 volunteers and was held in more than 10,000 municipalities.

Exceptionally due to the numerous events organized on the occasion of the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris, scheduled for December 7 and 8, the 2024 Telethon will take place on November 29 and 30.
