"With 'The Gray Man,' the Russos have delivered a breathtaking spectacle that has been loved by audiences around the world," said Scott Stuber, head of Global Film, in a statement. "We look forward to continuing to work with them and the team at AGBO to further expand the universe of 'The Gray Man'."

According to People, the sequel will be written by Stephen McFeely, who also co-wrote the first film, while the spin-off will be penned by Deadpool and Zombieland writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese .

"The audience reaction to The Gray Man has been phenomenal," the Russo brothers said in a statement. "We are so grateful for the excitement that fans around the world have developed for this film."

They added: "With so many amazing characters in the film, we always intended The Gray Man to be part of an expanded universe and we are thrilled that Netflix is ​​announcing a sequel starring Ryan, as well as a second script, which we want to talk about soon."

The film, which opened in select theaters from July 15 before releasing on Netflix last Friday, reached number one in 92 countries, according to Netflix data.
