Breather after Ivana's death: Trump and his children are allowed to testify later

In the course of investigations into financial transactions of their companies, Donald Trump and his children Don Junior and Ivanka are supposed to testify under oath for several days. After the death of the ex-wife and mother Ivana, however, the family makes a request to the public prosecutor's office - and is heard.

After the death of Ivana Trump, the first wife of the former US President, a planned statement under oath by Donald Trump and their two children Donald Junior and Ivanka has been postponed. A corresponding request from the family had been granted, confirmed the office of the New York Attorney General Letitia James. A new date should be found as soon as possible.

In the course of investigations into their companies' financial transactions, Donald Trump and his children Don Junior and Ivanka were supposed to answer questions from the New York Attorney General's Office about business practices of the Trump Organization for several days starting Friday.

The family's lawyers had tried to take action against this decision and to stop the investigation - so far unsuccessfully. James' extensive civil investigations include suspicions that Trump's company misrepresented the value of its real estate in order to obtain credit or price advantages. Trump has previously described the investigation as a "witch hunt" and accused Democrat James of being politically motivated.

Ivana Trump, who was married to Donald Trump between 1977 and 1992 and had son Eric with him alongside Ivanka and Donald Junior, died on Thursday at the age of 73. The background of the death is so far unclear. Dozens of onlookers and journalists gathered in front of the house on Manhattan's posh Upper East Side, where Ivana Trump had lived until the end. There was a bouquet of pink flowers in front of the front door.
