Finance Minister Lindner brakes: Report: Traffic light blocks around 30 own projects

The traffic light coalition is not pulling in the same direction on many projects, according to research by the "Süddeutsche Zeitung". Accordingly, Minister of Finance Lindner repeatedly slows down projects due to unclear financing. The resentment among coalition partners is great. A coalition summit could bring the solution.

According to a report, around 30 projects in the traffic light coalition have now been blocked or delayed due to disagreement and unresolved financing issues: This is the result of research by the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (SZ) in the parliamentary groups and ministries. In at least eight projects, there are objections from the Federal Ministry of Finance, led by FDP leader Christian Lindner. These objections also relate to irrelevant projects such as a change in the building code for more animal-friendly stables, details of the further training law and details of the police allowance.

The deputy leader of the SPD parliamentary group, Verena Hubertz, called for quick solutions: "We have to come back to a constructive cooperation," she told the "SZ". People are annoyed by disputes, and conflict solutions are expected in these times of crisis. "We need the spirit of the coalition negotiations again."

According to the report, a particular problem within the coalition is that several projects have been coupled with one another and are therefore partially paralysed. The FDP, for example, insists on accelerating the approvals for the faster construction of motorways - but this was linked to the accelerated expansion and new construction of railway lines in the country, which the Greens are insisting on. There are also problems with the amendment to the Road Traffic Act and with the immediate climate protection program, as well as with a law for more energy savings.

Another construction site is the care reform. According to a judgment by the Federal Constitutional Court, a new regulation must be in place by July 1st. Lindner and Health Minister Karl Lauterbach would have to agree here - the FDP minister is concerned about the ability to finance it.

In view of the reform backlog, coalition circles, according to "SZ", attach particular importance to the next coalition summit for solving some controversial issues. Chancellor Olaf Scholz generally prefers solutions at the technical level.
