Green boss criticizes demo: Nouripour: Wagenknecht mocks the Ukrainians

Together with the publicist Alice Schwarzer, left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht wrote a "Manifesto for Peace". The action met with widespread rejection. On the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, both call for a rally. Green leader Omid Nouripour is critical.

The leader of the Greens, Omid Nouripour, accuses Sahra Wagenknecht of the left of mocking Ukraine in view of the peace rally planned for Saturday. "Anyone who, like me, is in contact with the local people knows that Ms. Wagenknecht's statements come across as mockery," Nouripour told the newspapers of the editorial network Germany.

Nouripour added that AfD leader Tino Chrupalla was one of the first to sign the "Manifesto for Peace" by Wagenknecht and co-initiator Alice Schwarzer. "The Left Party must ask itself how it intends to deal with the fact that one of its best-known faces is signing papers together with the AfD chairman."

If Putin gets away with this aggression, his next move might be to attack Moldova or Georgia, the politician said. The people of Ukraine wanted to defend themselves and fight for their freedom and their country. For the Greens, the rule-based order of international law applies, Ukraine's right to self-defense and its sovereignty. "Doing dirty deals with Russia at the expense of third parties is not something we can and will not stand for."

It is necessary to deal with the situation carefully so that Germany, as a NATO state, is not drawn into the war, said the Greens leader. "At the same time, we mustn't forget that the Putin system is based on fear-mongering, both internally and externally. We cannot let this fear paralyze us."
