"Invitations" to Russia: occupiers prepare evacuation of Cherson

The Ukrainian army is pushing back the Russian occupiers in the south of the country. The Russian administration in the Cherson region is already preparing for the fact that they will soon have to vacate the newly annexed area.

Under pressure from Ukrainian counter-offensives, the Russian occupiers are preparing to evacuate the annexed southern Ukrainian region of Cherson with tens of thousands of civilians. Among other things, the Russian regions of Krasnodar and Stavropol are ready to take in children and adults, wrote the head of the occupation of Kherson, Vladimir Saldo, in his Telegram channel.

Another crew official, Kirill Stremusov, admitted on Russian state television that his administration is preparing for "a difficult time". At the same time, with a view to the planned evacuations, he spoke of "recreation invitations" from Russian regions to children, parents and the elderly.

Around seven months after the start of the war, the Ukrainian army has been gaining large amounts of ground in its counter-offensive for weeks. The Russian army had recently withdrawn from the Kharkiv region and also had to give up the strategically important city of Lyman in the Donetsk region. This had provoked clear criticism of the Russian military leadership within Russia. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reacted to this by replacing the commander of the Russian troops in Ukraine.

The Ukrainians have also recently reported the successful recapture of several towns in the Cherson region. The damage to the bridge between the occupied Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea and Russia is also a setback for Russian troops in Kherson. The bridge, which can only be used to a limited extent, was an important supply line for the units in southern Ukraine.
