La France insoumise MP Ersilia Soudais files a complaint for rape against her spouse, placed in police custody

Damien Cassé, municipal councilor in Noisiel (Seine-et-Marne) and La France insoumise (LFI) activist, was placed in police custody on Tuesday March 5, after his partner, LFI MP Ersilia Soudais, filed a complaint against him for rape. The information given by Le Parisien was confirmed to Agence France-Presse (AFP) by the Meaux prosecutor.

Damien Cassé was arrested Tuesday afternoon at his home by the police, according to the Ile-de-France daily which specifies that the facts denounced by the 35-year-old MP occurred in Noisiel.

In the evening, the suspect's lawyer, Me Yassine Bouzrou, told AFP that his “client strongly contests the accusations against him. »

Me Jade Dousselin, counsel for the 35-year-old parliamentarian, for her part welcomes “the great speed of justice in this case, which demonstrates, if necessary, that it took the full measure of the seriousness of the facts denounced.”

Complaint filed on the night of February 29 to March 1

“We now hope that all light will be shed in calm and respect for the secrecy of the investigation,” added the lawyer of the elected representative of Seine-et-Marne who, according to Le Parisien, filed a complaint in the night of February 29 to March 1.

For its part, La France insoumise said it called for “respect for the intimacy and private life of Ersilia Soudais”, while giving her “total support”. The movement was outraged when the complaint was revealed in the press, “without the consent of the victim”, which would amount to “a second violence”.

“How can women victims of violence still have the confidence to file a complaint, if this complaint is immediately brought before the whole of France,” LFI asked in particular in a press release.
