Municipal in Paris: LFI "prepares" to be "the first force"

Insubordinate France is already "preparing" to be "the first force in Paris" in the municipal elections of 2026, said Monday the deputy Sophia Chikirou, who pleads for "breaks" with the policy of the socialist mayor Anne Hidalgo.

"In 2022 in the presidential election, LFI made exceptional scores" and "we are preparing for what's next," she told reporters.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon obtained 30% of the votes in the capital - achieving particularly high scores in the east and north -, only beaten by Emmanuel Macron and his 35%.

Ms. Chikirou, close to the former candidate, posed as coordinator of this preparation and said she wanted to "help as much as possible so that LFI is the first force in Paris".

Will she be a candidate? "No, I'm not preparing myself," she replied, citing her work as a deputy and ensuring that she had another person in mind for the town hall of Paris, without further details.

A "coordinating body has been set up", which includes the leaders of the LFI action groups, she said. "We are going to start programmatic work in September" and "train executives to make them candidates" in the various districts of the capital.

According to the elected representative of the 6th district in the east, LFI will be better armed than in 2020, when its candidate Danielle Simonnet had obtained only 4.6% of the votes: "We have more deputies and elected officials, we have a strong network. There will be an Insoumise reality in Paris".

She said she was discussing "with all the forces of the left", but noted that the left-wing coalition Nupes, present in the National Assembly, "does not exist in Paris".

"It will be difficult to envisage 2026 in the continuity of the current majority," said Sophia Chikirou. “So that Paris does not fall to the right, we must accept ruptures” in terms of public policies, she added.

The relations between LFI and the Parisian PS are execrable, in particular because the Insoumis ensured, at the time of the Nupes agreement in May 2022, that the socialists of the capital did not have any of the best constituencies to represent the united left. to the legislative ones.

On the other hand, "with EELV the links are real and strong", assured Sophia Chikirou, despite the participation of the Greens in the majority of Anne Hidalgo.
