Patt with direct candidates: Sudden tie after counting - is it now drawn?

In the Berlin district of Lichtenberg, 466 ballot letters were accidentally left behind. After an initial count, the direct mandate of the CDU wobbles, the left is tied. According to the electoral law, the lot would have to decide. If the left wins, shifts in the SPD and Greens would also be possible due to domino effects.

After counting the first remaining ballot letters in the Berlin district of Lichtenberg, there is a stalemate between two direct candidates in one case. In constituency 3, the CDU candidate, Dennis Haustein, and the left candidate, Claudia Engelmann, are tied. So far, the direct mandate has been awarded to the CDU based on the provisional result.

The two were only ten votes apart. Of the first votes that have now been counted, 35 went to Engelmann and 25 to Haustein. According to the state election law, in the event of a tie, the draw of the district returning officer would have to decide, as first reported by Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB). The district election committee in Lichtenberg is scheduled to hold a public meeting on Monday afternoon. The deputy district returning officer Thomas Zeidler assumed on Wednesday that in case of doubt, if it was particularly tight, it would be more likely to count again.

According to RBB, if the direct mandate went to the left, this could have domino effects: the loss of the CDU seat could mean that other parties would lose equalization mandates, which in turn would affect the previous tie in seats between the SPD and the Greens (64 each). could affect. Theoretically, it would still be possible for one of the two parties to gain a seat advantage over the other. However, that is still completely open.

According to preliminary results, the SPD has a lead of 105 over the Greens in terms of votes. So it would also be possible that the subsequent count in Lichtenberg would cause a shift here. However, it didn't look like it was going to happen until midday.

A total of 466 ballot letters that were accidentally left behind in the district were to be counted for the repeat of the House of Representatives election. On February 27, the state election committee meets to determine the official final result for all of Berlin.
