Pedro Strop and Cubs agree to one-year extension

The Chicago Cubs and reliever Pedro Strop reached an agreement Friday on a one-year extension for 2018 with a club option.

Strop, who avoided an arbitration hearing by agreeing to a $5.5 million deal two weeks ago, will earn $5.85 million in 2018 with a $6.25 million option for 2019.

Strop will receive a $500,000 buyout if the Cubs don't pick up the option.

The deal gives the Cubs bullpen security, with Wade Davis and Koji Uehara on one-year deals and destined for free agency after this season.
