According to media reports, Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck wants to keep the two southern German nuclear power plants Isar 2 and Neckarwestheim 2 connected to the grid as a reserve until the end of the year. They should form an operational reserve for security of supply by mid-April, reports the magazine "Spiegel". Accordingly, they could stabilize the network in certain stressful situations.
This is also the result of a stress test commissioned by the ministry, the results of which are to be published in the evening. The third remaining nuclear power plant in Emsland could be shut down as planned at the end of the year, the magazine continued. The nuclear phase-out as regulated in the Atomic Energy Act will remain so.
According to "Spiegel", the ministry's justification is that nuclear power will remain a high-risk technology and that highly radioactive waste will burden subsequent generations. Therefore, an extension of the term "is out of the question", is quoted from Minister Habeck's environment.
