The departure of the prime minister: Johnson sees himself as a "motor rocket" before the crash

His era is short-lived and yet Johnson will be remembered by many - simply because of his flowery style of expression, which he gives to the best until the end. He promises support to Liz Truss and compares himself to "one of those booster rockets that has done its job".

Outgoing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has pledged his full support to his successor, Liz Truss. Johnson said goodbye to staff and supporters on Tuesday morning outside his office in London's Downing Street. In his usual flowery language, he compared himself to "one of those booster rockets that has done its job" and is now going to crash "in some remote corner of the Pacific".

At the same time, Johnson said he would fully support Truss and the new government. The outgoing prime minister called on his ruling Conservative Party to settle their differences in order to deal with the current energy crisis in Britain.

After saying goodbye in Downing Street, Johnson and Truss were to fly to the Queen's summer residence in Balmoral, Scotland, around 800 kilometers away. There, Elizabeth II receives the two politicians to accept Johnson's resignation and appoint Truss as head of government. Truss later gives her first speech in front of the seat of government in London's Downing Street.

Such ceremonies usually take place in Buckingham Palace. However, due to her health problems, the Queen decided to stay at Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands, where she is spending the summer.

Johnson resigned as party leader in early July after an internal party revolt against his much-criticized leadership. Truss was elected the new party leader by members of his Tory party and will automatically become prime minister as well.
