Following snowfall and continued low temperatures, seven departments are kept on orange snow and ice alert on Wednesday, January 10, until midday. From “Normandy to the west of Ile-de-France”, the soil remains frozen, reports Météo-France. Manche, Calvados, Orne, Eure, Yvelines and Essonne are affected by orange vigilance. The Nord and Pas-de-Calais, for their part, remain on orange alert for floods.
The snow and ice alert currently runs until midday on Wednesday, but Météo-France is already forecasting “sometimes significant snowfall” in the Lozère department on Wednesday. Another episode of snow at low altitude is expected in Aude and the Pyrénées-Orientales, during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, then Thursday morning. Furthermore, Météo-France warns of freezing rain, particularly in the Centre-East, Franche-Comté and Aquitaine.
Across France, many departments are also on extreme cold yellow alert, while the night was once again freezing with − 8 °C to − 2 °C from north to southwest. On Wednesday afternoon, temperatures will painfully reach 3°C in the northern half of France, with no thaw for Nord-Pas-de-Calais, and could climb up to 6°C in the south of the country.
