SC Freiburg has hit the jackpot: Breisgau will meet Italian record champions Juventus Turin in the round of 16 of the Europa League. Union Berlin has to deal with Union Saint Gilloise. The Berliners had to compete against the Belgians in the group phase. Bayer Leverkusen meets Ferencvaros Budapest. This was the result of the draw of the European Football Union (UEFA).
Freiburg must first play away, Union and Bayer have home advantage in the first leg. Leverkusen and Berlin prevailed in the intermediate round, Freiburg qualified directly for the round of 16 as group winners.
The round of 16 first leg will be played on March 9th, with the second leg taking place a week later (March 16th). The next day, the quarter-final pairings will be drawn, which are on the program in April (13th and 20th). The final will take place in Budapest on May 31st. The search is then for the successor to last year's winner Eintracht Frankfurt.
