First game without Gwinn: FC Bayern celebrate victory in the pursuer duel

FC Bayern Munich stays on course in the women's Bundesliga: With the third win in a row, the runners-up put themselves within striking distance before the top duel with VfL Wolfsburg. After a complicated initial phase, the second half runs smoothly.

Bayern Munich's footballers stay close to the top of the table in the Bundesliga. Coach Alexander Strauss' team defeated 1. FC Köln 4-0 (1-0) in the chasing duel on the fourth day of the game and celebrated their third win in a row. Defending champions VfL Wolfsburg had won 2-0 (1-0) at Turbine Potsdam and maintained their flawless record. Bayern, who competed for the first time without Giulia Gwinn, who was out for a long time with a cruciate ligament tear, are two points behind the leaders.

Their unfortunate teammate Gwinn, who tore the cruciate ligament in her left knee for the second time during a training session with the national team, had the women of FC Bayern in mind at least until kick-off: "If you did it once, you can do it twice - you're not alone" was written on the warm-up shirts worn by the players. Gwinn herself, who has since had surgery, announced in an Instagram post that she wanted to fight back quickly: "It breaks my heart not to be able to actively support my team on the field in the coming months ... but I know it exactly where I want to go back to. I'll take you on the journey with me and I'll do my best once again to get back to my girls as soon as possible," Gwinn promised.

The runners-up initially found it difficult against 1. FC Köln under the eyes of the newly re-elected president Herbert Hainer, but then took control of the game in the middle of the first half, but there were no real chances until the 29th minute - but the first serious attempt was direct: national player Klara Bühl passed the ball sharply inside, Linda Dallmann used a rebound to take the lead. Just a minute later, top scorer Lea Schüller missed a top-class chance. The preliminary decision brought an own goal from Myrthe Moorrees, who was fisted by her goalkeeper and directed the ball into her own goal (48th). Tainara (69th) and Lina Magull (83rd) finally sealed the victory, which was also deserved at high altitude.

Cologne remains in the first half of the table with six points. Next weekend there will be a direct duel between the two dominant teams in women's football in Germany when VfL Wolfsburg host FC Bayern.
