Outnumbered, Karlsruher SC celebrated its first win of the year in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Christian Eichner's team won against SpVgg Greuther Fürth 2-1 (1-1) after falling behind and being sent off thanks to great morale. After eight games in a row without a win, the Badeners got some air in the relegation battle. The game started extremely badly for KSC: First, Tim Breithaupt scored an own goal (21'), then Stephan Ambrosius received a yellow card for unsportsmanlike behavior (24'). Marvin Wanitzek equalized with a penalty kick after video evidence (36') before Mikkel Kaufmann (73') even scored the winning goal.
Fürth got off to a strong start a week after the derby win against 1. FC Nürnberg (1-0), but the lead after an unsuccessful attempt by Breithaupt to clear the ball was a product of chance. After the hard dismissal of Ambrosius for hitting the ball, Fürth was already on the road to victory, but the equalizer with a penalty made the 15,612 spectators excited again. After the break, KSC even got the upper hand, Wanitzek had the chance to take the lead with a direct acceptance (48th). As a result, there was not much to see of the hosts being outnumbered, quite the opposite - Kaufmann took the lead with a right-footed shot. Fürth's newcomer Lukas Petkov hit the inside of the post shortly before the end.
Hansa Rostock got his first win of the year and thus celebrated an important success in the relegation battle. At Arminia Bielefeld, Hansa won 1-0 (0-0) and extended his lead over the relegation place to five points. For Bielefeld, who had previously won three of four games, it remains tight with one point in 16th place.
Against the team of assistant coach Danilo de Souza, who looked after Arminia for the sick Daniel Scherning, the guests played powerfully from the start in front of 22,527 spectators. However, the Rostockers initially lacked the penetrating power. Kai Pröger (19th) had the best chance in the first round, but was denied by Martin Fraisl from close range. In the second half, Rostock benefited from a discrepancy in the Bielefeld defense. After a long tee shot, two Bielefeld players want to block the ball in their own penalty area, but Svante Ingelsson splashed in between and tipped the ball up to the five, where Lukas Fröde headed past the completely bewildered Fraisl almost unchallenged. It was the first goal of the year for his team. Rostock remained dangerous as a result, but the hosts' frequent advances were mostly too harmless and were not crowned with a goal.
