M6 offers the LFP to broadcast the L1 for free, TF1 "willing" to discuss it

The M6 group has offered the Professional Football League (LFP) to broadcast L1 matches for free, while waiting for a new official broadcaster to be found to replace Mediapro, said a spokesperson for the audiovisual group, confirming information from the Figaro.

Its competitor TF1 is for its part "willing to discuss with the LFP to help them find a solution in this difficult period". Asked, the League had not reacted to these proposals at the start of the evening on Friday. The two groups also each recalled that they were not intended to acquire the rights to the championships.

In a letter sent to the leader of the LFP, Vincent Labrune, the chairman of the management board of M6, Nicolas de Tavernost, explains that his group could "put our antennas at your disposal for the broadcasting of such and such a match in order to offer visibility to your competition and its sponsors, avoid any break in broadcasting and thus ensure the necessary social link around the broadcasting of Ligue 1".

M6 would thus serve as a temporary recourse for L1, during a period of uncertainty that could be created between the cessation of activity of Téléfoot, the Mediapro channel in liquidation, and the appointment of a new broadcaster to take over the lots won in 2018 by the Sino-Spanish group.

The LFP's board of directors has just approved the principle of a new call for tenders to reallocate these vacant broadcasting rights, but Canal is calling for a new general call for tenders, including the L1 matches it broadcasts already (20% of encounters) and which it wishes to restore.

Such an approach, even temporary, would allow M6 and TF1, already broadcasters of major competitions including Euro 2016 and Euro 2020 (postponed to summer 2021) and matches of the Blues, to strengthen in the field of football. , generator of good audiences.
