"Should wear a yellow shirt": Red sinner Streich explains his "stupidity" against the referee

For SC Freiburg, the appearance at Borussia Dortmund is really bad. The sixth in the table suffered a hearty defeat. Two people are sent off before the final whistle - one of them is coach Christian Streich, who takes on the referee. He explains his anger.

It was a game to forget for Christian Streich. His SC Freiburg just can't win in Dortmund. That is the law of the series, which is also irrevocable in the eleventh meeting in Westphalia in the Bundesliga. Freiburg lost 1:5 - and Streich had to watch the end from the stands. Because he was sent off in the 77th minute.

Referee Robert Schröder initially gave the coach a yellow card when he freaked out after an alleged foul by his player Nicolas Höfler. Then he applauded Schröder for the warning, squeezed him a spell - and had to go to the stands.

At the press conference Streich said: "I said: he should put on a yellow shirt. The fourth official heard that, it was too much for him. I should have turned away." And further: "At that moment, of course, I knew it immediately, but I couldn't control it, of course it annoys me that the referee justifiably threw me down, that was my stupidity, I'm really annoyed with myself."

Streich wasn't the only one from Freiburg who was sent off the pitch that Saturday afternoon. Kiliann Sildillia was sent off in the 17th minute. The 20-year-old Frenchman had been booked just two minutes earlier for stopping fast Karim Adeyemi with an arm. Shortly thereafter, Sildillia was again at a disadvantage to Adeyemi, just before the sixteen he wrestled the German national player down with a grab on the hip: yellow-red.

A decision that Streich did not like, which he made clear on the sidelines - and explained at the press conference: "I lacked proportionality. Before there was a duel between Kyereh and Süle, the referee let it continue. Then Kilian does the same and that is yellow. That's just not the proportionality you want, especially in Dortmund."

The anger didn't want to go away during the game - the five goals conceded by Nico Schlotterbeck (26th), Karim Adeyemi (48th), Sebastien Haller (51st), Julian Brandt (69th) and Gio Reyna (82nd) with only one of their own Goal by Lucas Höler (45th) gave no reason to celebrate. Streich's anger culminated in a reprimand. For the 57-year-old, it was the first yellow-red card in the 306th Bundesliga game of his career.
