A group of players from the youth team of C.D. Moths from Ceuta and their relatives attacked a national-class referee from Ceuta at the end of the match against Seville's Calavera, after which they waited in the street at the referee's exit to hit him and cause various injuries.
As reported this Sunday in a statement by the Royal Football Federation of Ceuta (RFFCE), the incidents occurred late Saturday afternoon on the occasion of the match between Polillas and Calavera, of the thirty-first day of group IV of the Youth Division of Honor, in the José Benoliel federation field in the city of Ceuta.
The RFFCE explained that at the conclusion of the match, which ended with a 3-0 victory for the Sevillian team against a Ceuta team that mathematically lost the category last week, the referee Antonio Pozo was heading towards his home and at that moment "he was cornered by several people, knocking him to the ground and being hit repeatedly, causing various wounds and bruises".
The attack, according to police sources, was carried out by players from the Polillas team and their relatives.
The referee went to a medical center to be treated and later to the National Police Station to file a complaint about what happened, accompanied by the head of the Technical Committee of Soccer Referees of Ceuta, Mohamed Ahmed, the president of the federation territorial authority, Antonio García Gaona, and several colleagues from the arbitral establishment.
The RFFCE "deeply regretted that such deplorable episodes occur in Ceuta football, in the same way thanking CD Polillas, led by its president Jesús Quintero, for their concern for the health of the referee who was attacked".
The club from Ceuta stated on social networks that it "condemns the acts that occurred after the Division of Honor match, where a fight took place in the street with the referee of the match."
The CD. Moths also announced that "it will investigate what happened, taking the necessary disciplinary measures against all club members who have participated in it," and added: "Violence has no place in our club."
