'We're waiting for you': Shots fired at Messi's family supermarket

Two unidentified men drove up on a motorcycle in Rosario, Argentina, and fired a total of 14 shots at Lionel Messi's father-in-law's shop. To do this, they leave a threatening letter with a clear message to the soccer star.

Unidentified attackers fired 14 shots at soccer superstar Lionel Messi's father-in-law's supermarket in Rosario, Argentina. They also left a note that read: "Messi, we're waiting for you," the newspaper La Nacion reported.

In the threatening letter, the perpetrators also attacked the mayor of Messi's hometown of Rosario, Pablo Javkin. "Javkin is a drug dealer, he will not protect you," it said. The attack happened around 3:20 a.m. that night. Two men on a motorbike stopped in front of the Único supermarket and fired 14 shots at the store's metal shutter. The supermarket belongs to the father of Messi's wife Antonela Roccuzzo.

Mayor Javkin criticized state security forces after the shop was attacked. "We have police officers, gendarmes and federal police officers here - but what we never see is law enforcement," he said. The head of the town hall also called on Governor Omar Perotti and President Alberto Fernández to take a look at the situation on site. "I'm the mayor of this city. To be clear: I don't lead the security forces. And when I asked for it, they didn't let me. So whoever is responsible should come here," he said.

Rosario suffers from a wave of violence. Several drug gangs are vying for control of the city northwest of Buenos Aires. Last year, 288 people were killed in the clashes. So far this year, 56 people have been killed in Rosario. Again and again members of the drug gangs attack public buildings, prisons and police stations.
