A 10-year-old undocumented immigrant with cerebral palsy, detained to be deported by the US
The American authorities stopped this week in Texas a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy after she knew she was an undocumented immigrant. The ambulance that transported Rosa María Hernández, Mexicana, was stopped by the border police when he was heading to a hospital to be operated on the gallbladder. The young woman remains isolated from her family in a detention center in San Antonio. Rosa María came to the United States by her parents, also undocumented, at three months of age. The family resides in Laredo (Texas). At dawn on Tuesday, his medical complications forced his doctors to move her to the city of Corpus Christi, about 230 kilometers to the east, to be operated. Along the way, a border police patrol stopped the ambulance and after knowing that he was an undocumented person, they followed the vehicle to the's Children hospital. After waiting at the door of Rosa María's room to be attended, the agents transferred her to a center of undocumented children to process her deportation. Since Wednesday he remains there alone. Her doctors have asked the authorities to return her family for health reasons. At the moment the American authorities do not consider releasing it. Rosa María could be detained for weeks until her departure from the country is processed. The Democratic representative of Laredo, Henry Cuellar, is pressing, along with numerous lawyers and activists, in favor of the young woman's departure. "Border forces have a huge duty to protect our country but we should be using our resources to focus on major threats," Cuellar said. With Donald Trump's arrival at the White House, federal authorities have increased the detention of undocumented immigrants by 40%. These have also included minors, but they are usually young people linked to criminal activities or crimes. The case of Rosa María is unusual: it takes almost its whole life as a resident in the country and also suffers a serious illness.
