Bavaria: More than five years in prison for hostage-takers from Karlstadt

Würzburg (dpa / lby) - In the process of taking a woman hostage in Karlstadt, Lower Franconia, the Würzburg district court sentenced the accused to five years and eight months in prison. According to the court, the criminal responsibility of the 23-year-old from the Hanover area was limited in February because he had consumed drugs and alcohol. A reduced ability to control was also noted. The severely alcoholic man has to undergo two years of therapy after Thursday's verdict. The court decision is final. (Az. 803 Js 2629/22)

The young man has been on trial since Monday for kidnapping, insult and threats. At the beginning of the trial, he had largely admitted the crimes in a house in Karlstadt (Main-Spessart district). Through his defense attorney, he said he freaked out because his ex-girlfriend, who lived in the house, wouldn't let him in.

As a result, the 23-year-old, armed with a knife, rioted in the apartment building and had the uninvolved woman in his power for a good eight hours. Nobody was seriously injured.
