Hesse: AfD may use parking lot for birthday event

Frankfurt/Main/Königstein (dpa/lhe) - Shortly before its tenth anniversary celebrations, the AfD achieved success in a legal dispute over a parking space against the city of Königstein. On Friday, the administrative court in Frankfurt ruled in favor of an urgent application by the party. This means that the parking spaces on a nearby square can be used for the event next Monday (February 6th) in the house of encounter in Königstein (Az.: 5 L 363/23).

Around 300 party members are expected at the AfD event on Monday evening, including the two chairmen Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla. Honorary Chairman Alexander Gauland is also to give a speech. The AfD celebrates its birthday in the Taunus, where ten years ago a small group formed the "Alternative for Germany". Various associations, unions and parties want to demonstrate around the event hall in Königstein - and that is exactly what ultimately triggered the AfD's urgent application against the city of Königstein.

According to the administrative court, the party was offered by a company owned by the city of Königstein in December to rent the parking lot, which the AfD did. In a later email, the company listed the rental of the parking space as a cost item. According to the court, the landlady informed the AfD in February that the space could not be used for parking after all because a demonstration had been registered there and other parking options in the area were referred to. On the other hand, the AfD filed an urgent application on Friday - with success.

The demonstration of the BUND district association Hochtaunus and the climate list Oberursel and Königstein was only registered at the end of January, the court emphasized. At that time, the city could have obtained information from its own company about the usability of the space. Complaints against the court's decision can be lodged with the Hessian Administrative Court in Kassel within two weeks of delivery.
