Hesse: emergency services after storms in continuous use

A school roof that was blown away, a muddy highway and blocked roads by downed trees: police and fire brigade forces were in constant use on Monday evening in eastern Hesse because of the storm. Nobody got hurt.

Bad Hersfeld (dpa / lhe) - A storm caused numerous fire brigade and police operations in eastern Hesse late Monday evening. Heavy rain, gusts of wind and hailstorms tore off the corrugated iron roof of a primary school, among other things, the police said on Tuesday morning. Accordingly, the fallen roof damaged several parked cars. However, there were no injuries as a result.

Between Bad Hersfeld and Friedewald, the storm washed earth and debris onto the lanes of the A4, which the emergency services reportedly kept busy for hours. There was considerable soiling because the gully covers were clogged and could no longer absorb the rain. With the motorway completely closed, the drains would have had to be cleaned at great expense. Police said the road was reopened around 11 p.m.

Rescue workers had to free a driver from her car after a tree crashed on her car roof in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district. According to the information, trees in the Bad Hersfeld and Kirchheim areas also buckled on the road on Autobahn 7.

In Bad Hersfeld, according to the police, a construction fence that had been blown down blocked a road and a lantern kinked on the side of the road on the adjacent federal road 62. In the slot area in the Vogelsberg district, trees also buckled on several roads – according to the information, a district road had to remain closed all night.

There were no injuries in any of the operations, police said. The extent of the respective damage to property from the consequences of the storm is still being determined.
