Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Climate Foundation: First requests for evidence in the investigative committee

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The parliamentary investigative committee for the controversial Climate Foundation Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania wants to decide on the first applications for evidence on Tuesday (8 p.m.) and thus start the substantive work. The committee has 34 applications, 29 of them from the opposition, according to committee circles. These are files that committee members want to see. These range from tax files to documents from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

The committee of inquiry intends to investigate the circumstances of the founding of the foundation in early 2021. The foundation supports climate protection activities, but was primarily established to support the completion of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline for Russian natural gas through the Baltic Sea. The project ran into difficulties shortly before the end when companies jumped out after threats of US sanctions. The line was finally completed, but due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, it did not receive an operating license from the German authorities.
