North Rhine-Westphalia: Firefighter injured in a major fire can leave the clinic

Goch (dpa / lnw) - After the major fire in Goch (Kleve district) with an estimated damage of 1.5 million euros, one of the two injured firefighters will soon be out of the hospital. According to the circumstances, the 36-year-old is doing well and will be released at the beginning of the week, said a spokesman for the fire brigade. His 46-year-old, seriously injured colleague will remain in the clinic for the time being. Firefighters suffered burns to their faces and hands.

The fire broke out on Friday afternoon in a hall of a wholesaler of flower and garden products. The fire brigade put out almost 19 hours. Up to 200 firefighters were on site. The cause of the fire is being further investigated.

After the fire, the fire brigade warned not to take any water from the Niers for the time being because extinguishing water could have gotten into the sewage system and thus into the river. The investigation of the water samples is still ongoing, said the spokesman. So the warning still applies.
