Last Saturday, Panamanian television experienced one of the television moments that will take time to forget. Broadcast of the program Sábado con Andrés, a format presented by Andrés Hurtado, in which the election of Miss Peru was celebrated. Everything was going smoothly: presentation of the participants, parade of the same and the usual question time of any self-respecting beauty contest.
Andrés Hurtado approaches one of the girls and asks her the question that corresponds to her and that she has written in her folder: "''What do you consider to be your greatest means?'' The contestant's face then showed that something was wrong. It was fine. "Medium?" "That's right, what do you consider to be your greatest medium or is the question asked wrong? Let's see, production, could it be fear...?" Andrés Hurtado snapped.
The normal thing is that once the presenter noticed the transcription error in the script, everything would have continued correcting the middle word out of fear. However, Andrés Hurtado, no. the presenter broke the rundown of the program and went directly behind the camera towards the producer, José Malpartida.
"You, come on, Mr. Director... I am not going to look bad as a driver in front of the country," he released to Malpartida live and direct and with the cameras broadcasting the loss of the presenter's papers. "As a producer I would like you to make sure before passing me the guideline, because it is not a matter of making a program just like that," he continued, while Malpartida, who did not dare to utter a word, endured the downpour with his head down.
"I am the one who shows the face, the contestants are in front. I would like you to step aside as producer of the Sábado con Andrés program. Leave your position to one of the boys, yes? Thank you. Finish the program and leave your work, okay?"
Malpartida then handed him what seemed to be the rundown of the program and accepted the dismissal and humiliation to which he had just been subjected. However, before Andrés Hurtado could open his mouth again, the producer turned around and tore the presenter's rundown out of his hands: "I'm taking them as a souvenir."
But Hurtado was not going to let the producer he had just thrown out unceremoniously stay above him: . "Excuse me, here the heads are cut off immediately. I cannot allow it. End the program and leave your job."
Then he returned to the rundown, approached the contestant and asked her the question correctly: "What is your biggest fear?" The young woman's response was a statement from the environment that Hurtado had established with his outburst in the program: "My greatest fear was daring to participate in Miss Peru."
It is not the first time that the presenter loses the papers. Last March, Hurtado was also the target of controversy when he fired his sound technician after the program's audio presented errors. The incident occurred when the sound technician sang and the sound slipped through the presenter. The mistake made Hurtado very angry, and he decided to stop working with him.
