Does too much salt in the meals? Blame your genes

Drinking tea regularly improves cognitive function and, therefore, the health of the brain, as has been evidenced in a study conducted by researchers from the National University of Singapore and has been published in the journal 'Aging'.

"Our results offer the first evidence of a positive contribution of tea drinking to the brain structure, and suggest that drinking tea regularly has a protective effect against the decrease in brain organization related to age", have said the experts.

previous Studies had already shown that the intake of tea is beneficial to health as it helps to improve the mood can prevent onset of cardiovascular disease and risk of cognitive impairment in older people by 50 per cent.

Now, the researchers, who have worked in collaboration with scientists at the University of Essex and the University of Cambridge, both in the United Kingdom, have wanted to know even more the direct effect of tea on brain networks.

The scientists discovered that people who consumed tea with green, blue or black at least four times a week, for approximately 25 years, had brain regions that were interconnected in a more efficient manner.

To do this, recruited to 36 people over age 60 to get data about your lifestyle, health and psychological well-being. In addition, the researchers conducted, during the years 2015 and 2018, neuropsychological testing and magnetic resonance imaging.

To analyze the cognitive performance of the participants and the results of the images, the scientists discovered that people who consumed tea with green, blue or black at least four times a week, for approximately 25 years , had brain regions that were interconnected in a more efficient manner.

"Take the analogy of road traffic as an example: consider the brain regions as destinations, while the connections between the regions of the brain are roads.

When a road system is better organized, the movement of vehicles and passengers is more efficient and uses less resources . Similarly, when the connections between brain regions are more structured, the processing of the information can be made more efficient", have said the experts.
