After a fatal shot on the set: Alec Baldwin comes to an agreement with the camerawoman family

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dies while filming 'Rust'. A real bullet is in the gun fired by actor Alec Baldwin. Now the 64-year-old agrees with her survivors. Filming continues and Hutchin's widower is also involved in the project.

Hollywood star Alec Baldwin has reached an out-of-court settlement with the family of the deceased after the fatal shooting of camerawoman Halyna Hutchins during a western shoot. Baldwin and the other producers of the western "Rust" have now announced this. The film is now scheduled to finish shooting from January 2023. Hutchin's widower Matthew, who sued Baldwin in February, will produce the western and drop his lawsuit.

"We are grateful to all those who helped resolve this tragic and painful situation," Baldwin said on Instagram. "Everyone has always been concerned with what's best for Hutchin's son," added the actor, who is a co-producer of Rust. Matthew Hutchins said he wasn't "blaming or blaming" Baldwin or the other producers. "We all assume that Halyna's death was a horrible accident." Now "Halyna's last work" should be appreciated. A compensation amount for the widower and his son was not mentioned. According to US media reports, Hutchins will receive a portion of the earnings from "Rust" in his role as producer.

The western is to be completed with the original main actors. Joel Souza, who was injured in the incident almost a year ago, will continue to direct. The agreement still has to be approved by a court.

Baldwin accidentally shot and killed 42-year-old cinematographer Hutchins with a prop gun while filming the low-budget western in New Mexico on October 21, 2021. The revolver was apparently loaded with at least one real bullet. It is not yet clear how this could have happened. Baldwin has repeatedly denied any responsibility. The 64-year-old emphasizes that he was told that the revolver was "cold", i.e. it did not contain live ammunition.

In an August interview with CNN, Baldwin blamed on-set gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and assistant director Dave Halls, who handed him the gun. "There are two people who didn't do what they should have done," said the actor, known for films like "The Hunt for Red October" and "The Temptation of Blondes." A number of civil lawsuits have been filed over the fatal shooting. Authorities have not yet filed any charges against those involved. However, the public prosecutor has not ruled out that this could still happen.
