After hoax about death: actor Tony Dow has died

When reports of Tony Dow's death circulated on Tuesday, they were denied shortly thereafter. Now, however, the actor dies at the age of 77. This is confirmed not least by his son.

Tony Dow is dead. The American actor and director was 77 years old. He is best known for playing Wally Cleaver on the sitcom Grow Up. The series star died on Wednesday, according to a statement on his official Facebook page.

"We have received confirmation from Tony's son Christopher that Tony passed away this morning, with his loving family by his side who have supported him on this journey," the statement said. "We know the world is united in its sadness at the loss of this incredible man. He gave so much to all of us and was loved by so many. One fan summed it up - 'It's rare that a human being is loved as unreservedly as Tom'", can also be read.

Thoughts are now with Dow's family. Son Christopher is quoted as saying: "Although this is a very sad day, I find comfort and peace that he is in a better place now. He was the best father anyone could imagine. He was mine Coach, my mentor, my voice of reason, my best friend, my best man and my hero." His wife was also full of admiration for her father-in-law. "She said, 'Tony was such a good person. He had such a big heart and I never heard Tony say anything bad or negative about anyone.'"

Reports had already been circulating on Tuesday that the actor had died. A denial soon followed. Dow is not doing well, but he is still alive. Apparently, however, he was already doing so badly that he has now passed away.

According to US media reports, Dow was hospitalized in the summer of 2021 with pneumonia. In May it was announced that he had cancer.

In addition to his role in "Leave It To Beaver" (originally "Leave It To Beaver"), Dow also appeared in series such as "Lassie", "Knight Rider" or "Murder is Her Hobby". He has also directed television, including several episodes of the sci-fi series Babylon 5 and an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
