Almost six months in prison: Boris Becker is the fitness trainer

Boris Becker is to spend two and a half years behind bars after being convicted of tax evasion. But with good behavior, he could probably get out of jail sooner. Apparently he's doing pretty well in prison.

In the meantime, it has actually been almost six months since Boris Becker moved into the building at the end of April. After being convicted of tax evasion in a London court, he has been serving his sentence in Huntercombe prison, northwest of the British capital, since mid-May. And there he is said to be doing quite well as a prominent convict.

The "Bild" newspaper now quotes Becker's lawyer Oliver Moser: "Our client Boris Becker is still doing well given the circumstances and he fits constructively into everyday prison life." And further: "It is possible for him to make phone calls at any time and to communicate with his outside world." No further details would be released to protect the 54-year-old's privacy.

Citing Becker's environment, the "Bild" newspaper also reports that the former Wimbledon winner lives in a solitary cell and has fully accepted his sentence. His behavior was impeccable and Becker was also popular with his fellow inmates.

Becker has lost about eight kilos in weight, it is said. And not just because there is no alcohol in prison. He also works out regularly at the gym and even acts as a trainer for other inmates. At the side of the actual prison coach, he teaches topics such as fitness, nutrition and crisis management. His life experience, which is characterized by both victories and defeats, benefits him in this regard.

Becker's sentence was set at two and a half years in prison when he was sentenced. But even then it was said that with good behavior he could possibly shorten the prison term significantly. Perhaps he is already a significant step closer to his return to freedom.
