Baden-Württemberg: ADAC warns of traffic jams shortly before the Christmas holidays

"Driving Home for Christmas": In the week before the Christmas holidays, many people make their way to their loved ones. The ADAC warns of traffic jams and advises avoiding two days in particular.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The ADAC Württemberg expects a lot of traffic and traffic jams in the southwest with a view to the upcoming Christmas holidays and the return wave. In particular, the two days before Christmas Eve, travelers would have to expect full streets, the association announced on Monday in its traffic jam forecast. "Anyone who wants to avoid the biggest traffic jams on their way to Christmas should ideally avoid the Thursday and Friday before Christmas," recommended Holger Bach, Head of the Traffic and Environment Department at ADAC Württemberg.

Commuter and holiday traffic would converge at the end of the working week, Bach said. "In addition, travel to the Alpine countries will be significantly stronger this time than in the past Corona years." The expert expects less traffic on Christmas Eve and the first day of Christmas. "Through December 26, the streets will get crowded again as many people return from visiting relatives and families," Bach said.

According to the ADAC, the routes in Baden-Württemberg that are particularly prone to congestion include the Autobahn 6 between the Weinsberg junction and the Hockenheim triangle, as well as the section from Stuttgart to Ulm on the A8. In addition, according to the information, travelers should be prepared for delays at the border crossings to Switzerland and Austria in the direction of the ski areas.
