Baden-Württemberg: Angeliño versus space: Hoffenheim welcomes Leipzig

Who made the better exchange deal in the case of Angeliño and David Raum is not out yet: The two football professionals from Hoffenheim and Leipzig are now playing in Sinsheim.

Zuzenhausen (dpa / lsw) - All eyes on the outer lanes? Angeliño and David Raum can show in the Bundesliga game between TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) in a direct duel and against their ex-clubs who is more valuable for their team. "TSG made the better deal. Quite simply," said Angeliño confidently a few weeks ago when he was still struggling with teething problems. In the meantime, however, the Leipzig loan has also arrived in the Kraichgau in terms of sport.

"I think Angeliño has integrated very well. I can really dispel the prejudice that he might behave like a diva because he didn't agree with every substitution in Leipzig. I don't have that feeling at all here," judged his trainer André Breitenreiter on Thursday. "I think he's getting better and better at showing himself week by week. He's a really good guy who can also be funny."

Both Angeliño and Raum, who came to Hoffenheim from SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the summer of 2021, rose to international status there and then moved to Leipzig for around 26 million euros, have only had one assist so far this Bundesliga season.

According to a "kicker" comparison between the two wingers, Raum was more willing to run and sprint and was also faster at the top. But Angeliño received 30.4 percent of his crosses - only 17 percent for Raum. No question: The 24-year-old Franconian has been seen as a disappointment in Leipzig so far, after being the big whiz kid in the upper house in his first season. However, Raum put on a solid performance in the 4-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League in Warsaw on Wednesday night.

"I think the most important transfer of the summer was to RB Leipzig," said Raum recently, referring to the exchange deal with Angeliño. The 25-year-old Spaniard played 68 Bundesliga games for the Saxons and was involved in 18 goals (seven goals, eleven assists). His first goal for TSG in the 5-1 victory in the cup against Schalke 04 did the winger good. Incidentally, the two clubs and therefore Angeliño and Raum will soon see each other again in the DFB Cup: on February 12 in the round of 16, but then in Leipzig.

"I'm fully behind David. You have to see how many games he has played, including the national team. He gives us stability, marches, fulfills his tasks," said RB coach Marco Rose recently, as space at 3: 2 was substituted against Real Madrid. In any case, the people of Leipzig come as a premier class round of 16 and with a broad chest: the team is unbeaten ten games in a row.

Angeliño is outside in this round internationally with Hoffenheim. According to TSG sports director Alexander Rosen, he wanted to get the left-back in 2020. The club now have an option to buy the ex-Leipziger and former Manchester City youth player. "We want to have a great year here together and then we'll see what worked. I want to give the answer to the transfer on the pitch," said Angeliño in an interview with the club magazine, referring to those critics who think Hoffenheim have made the worse exchange with the Spaniard: "In a year people will think differently about the change."
