Baden-Württemberg: Christmas houses: Avoid debates or now?

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Bright lights despite the energy crisis? The Christmas house owners in the southwest are divided this year on how much bling-bling it should be. Jörg Meißel decided whether his Christmas house should shine in a survey on the social network Facebook. In the comment columns, the answer was quickly clear: "In any case," wrote a user, "Christmas is the celebration of love, and the glow is part of it."

After a two-year Corona break, Meißel now wants to decorate the house in Lichtenstein (Reutlingen district) again: with 80,000 LED lights and up to 180 figures. Compared to previous years, the lighting will be a little more economical, said Meißel of the German Press Agency in Stuttgart. Instead of bling-bling, this time he's going for a nostalgic style with warm-white tones.

But not everyone is opting for the elaborate lights this year: "I want to avoid the discussions," said Thorsten Grüger, who has been illuminating his house in Karlsruhe-Neureut during Advent for years. At the end of September, the German Environmental Aid called for no Christmas lights. Grüger said he knew many people in his area who had actually planned to shine - but are now not doing so out of consideration.
