Berg (dpa / lsw) - A courier driver prevented fraudsters from depriving a senior citizen in Berg (Ravensburg district) of her savings. The man brought the 95-year-old's gold jewelry and gold coins to the police station - instead of to the transport destination named by the scammers. According to the police on Tuesday, they had instructed the 42-year-old man to pick up something from the elderly woman, but obviously did not let him know the background. At the handover, he was taken aback.
The perpetrators had previously told the elderly woman on the phone that her daughter was responsible for a traffic accident that left one dead. The elderly woman should pay bail to get the daughter out of the alleged detention. After their initial demand, the scammers contacted the woman again, now demanding cash to cover bail. When the elderly woman went to the bank and wanted to withdraw a five-digit sum, a bank employee also became suspicious and called the police. The criminal police have started investigations into commercial gang fraud.
