Used car check: Porsche 911 at HU almost flawless and free of defects

The sports car classic 911 from Porsche is an icon - in every generation and also as a used car. How is a 911 from the seventh generation (type 991) doing? At least at the TÜV it cuts off almost exemplary and shows hardly any weaknesses.

Anyone who owns a 911 loves it - that can be assumed. Because owners usually take care of and maintain the Porsche 911 conscientiously. Last but not least, it is also about value retention. Because the sports car classic is an investment in every generation, and the 991 is no exception. "Used buyers therefore very often come across well-maintained vehicles without a backlog of repairs," says the "Auto Bild TÜV Report 2023". In the main inspection (HU) he cuts off almost exemplary.

Model history

The seventh generation of the Porsche 911 since the U-type of 1963 is known as the 991. It was launched in 2011 and was built until 2019. An era came to an end with the facelift of 2015: the remaining naturally aspirated engines were removed from the range and made way for turbo boxers.

Since then, rear-axle steering has also been available as an option for all versions, as well as a chassis with active dampers as standard for all variants. The navigation system has also been renewed. In 2019, the 992 replaced the 991.

body variants

The classic shape of the 911 is also the coupé with two seats and a hint of a rear bench in the 991 model. The racer was also built as a convertible with a fabric top and in a Targa version with a soft top, roll bar and a large rear window that nestled around the coupé's rear.

The limited Speedster without a top, but with a tarpaulin and naturally aspirated engine, which Porsche built to complete the 991 at the end of 2019, plays no role in terms of quantities and on the used market.

Dimensions

4.49 to 4.56 meters x 1.81 to 1.88 meters x 1.27 to 1.30 meters (L x W x H), trunk volume: 125 to 145 liters (coupé), 115 liters (convertible); 125 liters (Speedster).

Strengthen

The electric power steering works precisely and with feedback, the Porsche stays on course even at high speeds - driving itself is the core competence of the model.

"Well over 90 percent of all 911s of the 991 generation complete the TÜV check without any defects," writes the "Auto Bild TÜV Report 2023". Rust? Defect rate of 0.0 percent. The axle suspension and the springs are also free of complaints, the entire lighting is unobtrusive, which also applies to the brake components.

weaknesses

Barely available. Sometimes the convertible tops make strange noises or the fabric folds, the report notes. But at the TÜV, complaints only occur in exceptional cases, such as when the parking brake goes on strike or the brake discs are worn.

According to the report diagram, oil loss is sometimes diagnosed during the first HU, and the exhaust system is very rarely the subject of complaints during the fourth.

breakdown behavior

According to ADAC, it is mainly the battery that spoils the generally good performance in the ADAC breakdown statistics. Problems with the power storage unit are the main areas of breakdown for models that were first registered in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

In the statistics, the 911 ends up in good and very good places, only the years of construction 2016 and 2019 end up in the middle of the data collection.
