Aarhus (dpa/lsw) - The MHP giants Ludwigsburg ended the preliminary round in the FIBA Basketball Champions League with a win. On Tuesday, head coach Josh King's team won 94-86 (53-47) at the Bakken Bears and scored their fourth success in the sixth group game. The Ludwigsburg team finished second in their preliminary round group and have to go through a "play in" phase in order to qualify for the second round.
The Ludwigsburg team ended the first quarter with an 8:1 run and gained momentum. In the first half, the guests were not accurate, but created many second shot chances through strong rebound work.
At the end of the third round, the Bundesliga basketball team took a double-digit lead for the first time. The Danish club came back, but Justin Johnson (18 points, 11 rebounds) put a nine-point lead and decision with a dunk from rapid attack a minute from time.
The so-called "Play In" phase begins on January 3, 2023. The Ludwigsburg meet the third party of Group F, Baxi Manresa (Spain) or Limoges CSP (France). The first team to win two games advances to the intermediate round.
