Halle (dpa/sa) - In the opinion of veterinarians, increasing costs for veterinary visits could pose a health risk for animal companions. Operations are being postponed, vaccination appointments are being omitted and there is concern in the animal shelters that many pet owners will give up their protégés, warned the Saxony-Anhalt state chairwoman of the Federal Association of Practicing Veterinarians, Anne-Kathrin Witzlack, in the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung (Tuesday).
After a new nationwide scale of fees came into force a month ago, the costs for treatment at the vet rose by around 20 percent on average. Although the reform is overdue, given the energy crisis, animal welfare problems could arise, says Witzlack.
