Baden-Württemberg: Dispute over refugee costs: Bayaz proposes "power word".

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz (Greens) expects higher grants from the federal government for the refugee costs of the federal states. Bayaz said on Wednesday in the state parliament in Stuttgart that there was a "clear commitment" from the federal government in the spring to contribute financially to the costs of care if the number of refugees increases.

The country has taken in more than 134,000 refugees from Ukraine since the start of the Russian war of aggression. At the meeting of the federal and state governments next Wednesday, a solution must finally be found, "with a word of authority from me, again with a word of authority from the Federal Chancellor". The Greens were alluding to Chancellor Olaf Scholz's "power word" on the question of a longer term for the remaining nuclear power plants in Germany.

Bayaz introduced the draft for the double budget to Parliament. Green-Black does not want to take on any new debts. In view of the crisis, the minister admitted that he could not yet say whether the coalition would have to take out new loans as part of the debt brake in the next two years. It is clear that the budget is fraught with many imponderables. The first thing to do is wait for the tax estimate at the end of the week. "We have early indications that the numbers are looking pretty good," said Bayaz. The reason for this is that the state benefits from the high inflation through sales tax. Bayaz said he thinks it's important that more money goes into the risk reserve.
