It wasn't that long ago that the prices for petrol and diesel caused alarm. Other needs now take precedence. Irrespective of this, something is currently happening at the pump. Even if far too little, as the ADAC criticizes.
The prices that consumers have to pay for petrol and diesel at the filling station have fallen noticeably compared to the previous week. According to a current analysis by the ADAC, the drop in Super E10 is 5.4 cents to an average price of 1.885 euros per liter. Diesel fuel was reduced by 2.7 cents per liter from 2.147 euros to 2.120 euros.
Despite the slight decline, according to the automobile club, prices are still far too high, especially for diesel. A decoupling of fuel prices from the price of crude oil began in the first half of March 2022, i.e. shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Because at that time, the prices at the gas stations rose much faster than the price of Brent oil. According to the ADAC, the petroleum companies in particular will benefit from this. Irrespective of this, special factors also play a role with diesel, such as the seasonally higher demand for heating oil or the high demand for diesel in industry as a gas substitute. However, a liter of diesel accounts for more than 20 cents less energy and VAT, but the liter currently costs more than 23 cents more than Super E10.
According to the ADAC, drivers should find out about the current prices in the area before driving to the gas station and head for the cheapest gas station. According to current evaluations, anyone who fills up in the evening between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. can save an average of twelve cents compared to the morning hours. Price-conscious refueling behavior also promotes competition and can therefore also contribute to a price reduction.
