Ludwigsburg (dpa/lsw) - After the heaviest German pumpkin last weekend, the pupil with the highest weight in all of Europe will also be weighed in Ludwigsburg on Sunday. Breeders from several countries take part in the European Pumpkin Weigh-In Championship. The defending champion is Stefano Cutrupi from Radda in Chianti (Italy), who took first place last year with his 1217.5 kg pumpkin.

Last weekend, the heaviest pumpkin in Germany was awarded in the Blühendes Barock in Ludwigsburg. He comes from the breeders David and Jakob Frommelt from Erkheim (Bavaria) and weighs exactly 796 kilograms.

In the gardens around Ludwigsburg Palace, countless specimens and huge pumpkin sculptures can be seen at the annual pumpkin exhibition.
