Baden-Württemberg: Ex-Daimler manager becomes new mayor in Vaihingen

Vaihingen/Enz (dpa/lsw) - The former Daimler manager Uwe Skrzypek has won the election as the new mayor in Vaihingen an der Enz (Ludwigsburg district). The 51-year-old, non-party East Westphalian and self-declared Swabian by choice received 52.35 percent of the votes on Sunday, according to the city on the Internet. Matthias Beck was in second place with 45.32 percent, Bernd Michael Rothmann was far behind in third place with 2.17 percent.

All three non-party applicants were defeated in the first ballot three weeks ago by CDU candidate Sven Haumacher, who, with 41.89 percent of the votes, missed the then necessary absolute majority of more than half of the votes. Haumacher did not stand for re-election because he had hoped for more approval.

This time even a simple majority would have been enough to win. The turnout among the 22,374 eligible voters was reportedly 45.49 percent. Incumbent Gerd Maisch from the Free Voters is retiring after 16 years.
