Baden-Württemberg: Freiburg: Prepared for a possible nuclear accident in Switzerland

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) - The Freiburg regional council sees itself prepared for a possible accident in the Leibstadt nuclear power plant near the Swiss border. Since Tuesday, a serious accident involving the release of radioactivity in the nuclear power plant near the German border southwest of Waldshut-Tiengen has been simulated in order to be prepared for an emergency. The authority responsible for civil protection is well positioned for conceivable crises, said District President Bärbel Schäfer on Thursday. "In an emergency, the protection of the population comes first."

According to earlier information, four reactor units are still in operation in Switzerland: Beznau I and II from 1969 and 1971, Leibstadt (1984) and Gösgen (1979).
